St Luke’s Mar Thoma Church, Parish History

St. Luke’s Mar Thoma Church is part of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar and belongs to the Southern Region of the Diocese of North America. Established in 1995 as the 40th parish of the Diocese, our church has been a beacon of Christ’s divine love—offering both spiritual and material support to those in need, especially the distressed and downtrodden.

Since its inception, our parish has grown from 24 families to 62 families, a testament to God’s grace and the dedication of our members. We gratefully remember and honor the faithful service of all our former vicars, who shepherded the parish with commitment and care. We give thanks to the Almighty for their leadership and lasting impact.

Rev. Suku Philip Mathew has been serving as our vicar since June 2023. His pastoral responsibilities are shared between the Jacksonville congregation and our parish. Residing in Coral Springs, Achen provides exemplary leadership, combining effective administration with spiritual wisdom, for which we are deeply grateful.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to all our former Diocesan Bishops for their leadership and spiritual guidance over the years. We continue to uphold them in our prayers, seeking God’s continued blessings on their health and ministry. In particular, we are thankful to our current Diocesan Episcopa, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Paulos, for his unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement throughout this past year.

The parish is blessed with several vibrant organizations—including the Sunday School, Suvisesha Sevika Sangham, Voluntary Evangelistic Association (Edavaka Mission), Senior Citizens’ Fellowship, Choir, Young Family Fellowship, and Youth Group—which actively serve both our parish and the wider community. These groups play a vital role in our outreach efforts and are actively involved in various community service initiatives, such as Feeding South Florida, International Street Outreach, Boca Helping Hands, Clothing Drives for Hope for South Florida, Beach Clean-Ups, and Backpack Stuffing for School Children, among others.
